Biography:
Claudia Tarbell is a young Mohawk woman raised in the Mohawk community of Akwesasne located on the border of the United States and Canada in northern New York State. She was raised in a racing family and served as pit crew for her Dad and brother during the family’s early snow mobile racing days. Her racing career evolved from her enjoyment of racing RC (Radio Controlled) Cars which she initiated in 1997 and continued until 2000. Her RC car achievements include two track championships and two track records. The thrill of RC car racing for Claudia was the challenge of making the car go faster and to steadily handle the car in race track conditions.
In the summer of 2001 Claudia moved up to asphalt Go-Car racing. Her achievement was second place in points. The end of the season of 2003 was Claudia’s first car racing experience. She raced in the Bandit class at the Frogtown International Speedway racetrack located in the community of Akwesasne. She began applying the same steady handling she learned with RC cars to the Lonewolf Racing #7D Toyota Celica race car and improved her driving skills with each race. In 1994, Claudia raced her first full season. Her accomplishments were 8th place in points and winner of the Up and Coming Driver Award. In 2005, the car and driver, Claudia, took second in points with a race car that had significantly less horsepower than the competition in the Bandit class. Lonewolf Racing was able to make a slow car fast by focusing on importance of set up and continuously improving driving skills.
After winning track champion for Bandit class two years in a row Claudia now aspires to move up a racing class to Pro Stock and is committing this season to building the car and the skills she will require to race at that level. She is also working on building up more sponsorships and professionalizing her team and pit crew. Claudia proudly represents the community of Akwesasne as one of the only woman drivers in the local Bandit class and will also be the only woman driver at the semi-pro class level next season. Lonewolf Racing is proud of the accomplishments of this unique and talented young woman.
